Respect speed limits or you could become a killer
Last weekend I was in Corsica, in Bastia and
Moriani to be precise on the North east coast of the Island.
Yes it is a little paradise but not for everybody!
OK It is not a specific Corsica problem, especially because in August with
the tourists only one in ten cars is a local and the others are from all over Europe with a dominance of Italians, German, Dutch and
mainland French.
So these roads are very busy and animals; cats, dogs and wildlife are paying
the price of the unconscious drivers that don’t respect the speed limits
especially when they pass through a hamlet, village or small town on the main
road. The speed limit is 50 Km but they
continue driving at 100 or more and then I am sure you can guess what the inevitable
of the consequences are: cats, dogs and other wild animals dead, crushed on the
road, probably trying to cross to get
back home. OK this problem is every where in Europe but I was shocked and angry to see so many of them on this road.
Drivers don’t seem to understand that they have a killing machine in their
hands and if they continue like that, with no respect for the speed limit and
driving with their mobile phone, they will kill a human as well.
If you recognize yourself in this article, and even if you don’t, please
think twice, and always slow down when approaching towns or villages.

UPDATE:
Shortly after I had written this article, I heard on the radio than a British student, Sophie Fletcher-Curran, 19, was working for holiday firm Mark Warner during a year-long placement from university.
She died in the hospital of Bastia after an accident on the road, exactly where I used to cross myself, this is a national road, which passes through the little hamlet of Moriani, and to reach the beach and the Hotel San Lucianu in Moriani where Sophie was working, you need to cross the national where once again drivers are going too fast and every pedestrian and animals is in danger.
I used to see members of the team in write and red working in San Lucianu and they were living in bungalows just across the national, I was sad to hear that as I took pictures of this place just the day before of the accident, God bless her and from all of us at andrics.com wish to express our condolences to the family.
If you like driving fast, over speeding, please think twice again!
