	The L'insee (French institute of statistics) has warned of a real and hard recession in France next year and a substantial rise in unemployment. It warns that it is possible; France next year will be in recession for the first time since 1993. With the international crisis, France is expected to suffer a general slow down of its economy.

	I was struck be an article on the news this week that Denis Macshane, a former UK Minister for Europe, has warned UK expacts living abroad that as the economic downturn starts to bite, the costs of Brits living mainly in Spain would risk facing an “anti-foreigner feeling” – similar to that faced by the Poles in the UK.
