IN PERPIGNAN, The Catalan part of  France: The Menu anti-credit crunch

French M edia

A restaurant has a daily menu for 5.90 euro to fill an empty restaurant. Since late November, this is the lowest price for a gastronomic menu in this lovely city. The special menu is composed of a plat du jour, a ballon (glass) of red wine and a coffee. The same menu was 7.90 euro before this special offer. Now the Pizzeria “PASTA PRONTO” is full every day.

The purpose of André Ballester Rizzi and Valerio, associates Pizza Pasta Pronto is to attract people who usually would eat a sandwich and a drink in the street in this cold winter who would prefer to have a nice lunch for similar price in a real restaurant that is warm and friendly. Students, retired persons, young people can all eat cheaply with the smell of baking pizzas, the speciality of this Italian restaurant.

Andrew Ballester said: "Now our place is full, mostly for lunch with people who usually can’t afford to go to restaurant. With a smile, he pointed out that his sign is located behind a restaurant, near the Place de Cataluña in the centre of Perpignan. "Although we are not as well located, people have been able to find us."

In Saint Marcel sur Aude also a couple of restaurants near Narbonne have launched a daily menu of five Euros to the fight the credit crunch.
