BARCELONA CLOSER TO FRANCE

Good news for Barcelona and the French border.

Barcelona will be closer to France by 2012,  says Minister of public works, Jose Blanco.

The AVE, the High speed train similar to the French TGV will connect Barcelona with France, already next year but the full service will run in 3 years, in 2012 to be precise.

Despite the difficult Spanish geography in this part of the country, it is our obligation to pay special attention to international and cross-border rail connections.

These are vital and a priority in order to improve the Spanish economy’s competitively, Blanco stated.

The line will cross the Pyrenees via Aragon and the French region of L’Aquitaine (Bordeaux).

The Minister also hinted at a high-speed train eventually being installed along the Mediterranean coast from Cataluña to Andalucía.
